One-Day Workshops
One-time sessions typically run $40 to $75 per person. You make one or two pieces, and the studio handles firing and glazing afterward. You pick the piece up two to three weeks later. Good for testing whether you like pottery before committing.
Six-Week Courses
The standard format is a 6-week course meeting once per week for 2-2.5 hours. Prices in Charlotte range from $260 to $400 for the full course. That works out to $45-$65 per session, with all clay, glazes, and firing included.
This is the format we recommend for most beginners. Six weeks is enough time for wheel throwing fundamentals to click and for you to finish 4-8 pieces you actually want to keep.
Studio Membership
If you've taken a class and want unlimited access, memberships run $130 to $200/month in Charlotte. A studio membership typically includes 24/7 access, unlimited clay, glaze access, and kiln firing. Storage shelf usually included. Tools provided or BYO.
Compared to per-class pricing, membership pays off if you go more than twice a week.
Open Studio
Some studios sell open studio passes by the session ($25-$35) or by punch card. Good middle ground if you don't want a full membership but want occasional practice between classes.
What Should Be Included
A class that's worth your money includes:
- All clay you'll need for the session
- Access to studio glazes (10+ colors minimum)
- Bisque and glaze firing of finished pieces
- Use of studio tools (wheels, hand tools, slab roller)
- Apron and protective gear available
